Mainstream brands are waking up to the potential of cannabis for wellness
Whilst they declined to comment on the claims, Coca-Cola did state that they were ‘closely watching’ the development of the cannabis drinks market. If the reports are true, they won’t be the first drinks brand to enter the growing cannabis for wellness market. In 2017, Corona beer owner, Constellation Brands, invested $200m into Canada’s top cannabis producer. Canopy Growth, to produce a non-alcoholic cannabis-based beverage. Molson Coors Brewing Company and Diageo are also said to be considering launching their own products, but when a brand as big as Coca-Cola is said to be thinking about entering the market, the world takes note.
As the barriers to medicinal, and in some places recreational marijuana fall around the world, it’s easy to see why big brands are looking to capitalise on a market that could be a potential gold mine. To put this in context, according to recent projections from the cannabis research firm Brightfield Group, the CBD industry could reach a whopping $22bn in market size by 2022.
Coca-Cola hasn’t made any further comments on their future plans, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime, there are lots of other brands out there who have been busy creating cannabis related wellness products you can try now, and we take a look at some of the ones already on the market.
